Journal Register Company Names Michael Topel Editor of The Trentonian

Yardley, PA – Journal Register Company, a leading local news and information company, announced today the appointment of Michael Topel as editor of The Trentonian in Trenton, New Jersey.
Mr. Topel, 48, began his career as a staff reporter at The Trentonian where he was responsible for covering the city’s schools as well as Mercer County government. He also worked as a staff reporter and Assistant Metro Editor at The Times of Trenton.
Most recently Mr. Topel has served as Senior Editor for Digital Content for The Philadelphia Inquirer. Prior to that promotion, Mr. Topel was New Jersey Editor for three years at The Philadelphia Inquirer and he has also worked as a reporter and editor for The Associated Press.
“Mike’s experience – whether it’s his ties to Trenton and New Jersey or his time with the Associated Press – make him a strong choice to lead The Trentonian. Our readers are going to see changes in the way The Trentonian covers the city and state government and Mike’s leadership will be key to those changes,” said Jim Brady, Executive Editor of Journal Register Company.
During his career Mr. Topel, a graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, helped lead breaking news coverage of the Columbine shootings, the Oklahoma City bombing trials, the JonBenet Ramsey investigation, Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq war.
