Journal Register Company Names Frank Gothie Publisher of the Year

TRENTON, NJ – Journal Register Company (NYSE:JRC) today announced that Frank Gothie, Publisher of the Company's Delaware County Daily and Sunday Times in Primos, Pennsylvania, was honored as the Company's Publisher of the Year for 2006.

In making the announcement, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert M. Jelenic said, "It is with great pleasure that I present this award to Frank Gothie in recognition of his outstanding performance and leadership at the Delaware County Daily and Sunday Times in 2006. The Delaware County Daily and Sunday Times had excellent performance on both the top and bottom lines in a fairly stagnant local economic environment."

In 2006, Frank Gothie’s leadership at the Delaware County Daily and Sunday Times was also
evident when the newspaper won a total of 13 Editorial awards, including first place awards for
Spot News from the Society of Professional Journalists and Headline Writing from the
Philadelphia Press Association.

Gothie started at the Delaware County Daily and Sunday Times in 1979 as Marketing Director
and in 1981 was part of the team responsible for successfully converting the Delaware County
Daily Times from an evening broadsheet to a morning tabloid. Circulation and advertising
growth in the year that followed made it one of the fastest growing newspapers in the country.
Gothie was promoted to General Manager in 1983 and appointed to his current position as
Publisher in 1986. Gothie began his newspaper career in 1969 at the Evening Bulletin in
Philadelphia. Gothie has been active with the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association for most of
his career, serving numerous terms on its Board of Directors. He was elected President of the
PNA in 1999 serving a two-year term. Gothie, a native of Delaware County, has also served on
the boards of several charitable and civic organizations in Delaware County including the
Chamber of Commerce, the United Way and the March of Dimes.
